MT has started to develop a UHF EPC gen2 version of the platform described above.

As soon as the volumes of sales justify, MT plans to move to a higher performing silicon technology (CMOSF8 0.18 um) which would allow for a dramatic improvement in features and performances together with a significant reduction in the silicon area and price.

MT’s strategy to outpace competitors and establish itself as a market leader in the upscale RFID market includes the following strategic decisions:

First, MT has started to develop a UHF EPC gen2 version of the platform described above. Adding a UHF product is considered vital to MT because it will allow for the penetration of the US and Pacific Rim markets where the infrastructure is completely UHF oriented. Also, the UHF standard meets the long range reading distance requirement which comes from many industrial fields and particularly from the high volume retail market which requires item level tagging.

Secondly, as soon as the volumes of sales justify, MT plans to move to a higher performing silicon technology (CMOSF8 0.18 um) which would allow for a dramatic improvement in features and performances together with a significant reduction in the silicon area and price.
